The State of Wildfires 2024–2025 Report, published last week, reveals that climate change has driven extreme wildfire seasons globally, resulting in the release of billions of tonnes of CO2, and burned areas in the Americas up to 35 times larger than what fires caused in previous decades. This annual report brings together fire researchers from around the globe to better understand recent wildfire activity and its underlying drivers. Brando Lab Postdoctoral Associate Patrícia Silva served as a co-author for this year’s report.
