Quantifying Microbial Methane Production

What researchers want to achieve: To build and validate tools that quantify methane production and methane degradation rates in places where methane is emitted such as soils, wetlands, and inland waters. The initial focus is on methane emission from tree tissue.

Why it matters: Understanding the rate of methane emission from trees will improve the carbon accounting in forests on which global climate models, carbon markets and emission targets are based.
