YCNCC Fall 2024 Research Showcase
On Friday, September 20, 2024, the Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture (YCNCC) hosted its Fall 2024 Research Showcase at Yale School for the Environment’s Burke Auditorium. The event featured a series of 5-minute lightning talks presented by 26 researchers, including graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty members. These talks showcased innovative and impactful research spanning various disciplines, with a particular emphasis on three focus areas: ecosystem carbon capture, geological and ocean capture, and industrial carbon utilization. Beyond the benefits to the researchers, this event also served as an opportunity for the Yale community to learn about the latest research happening at YCNCC, connect with researchers from various departments/centers/schools, and foster collaborative endeavors.
At the start of the event, Liza Comita, YCNCC Co-Director, extended a warm welcome to the attendees and expressed gratitude for their unwavering support of research on natural solutions to combat climate change. Following the conclusion, all attendees were invited to a reception in the Yale School of Environment courtyard, with food and drinks that was co-sponsored by the YSE Forest Clubs TGIF.
In recognition of outstanding presentations, YCNCC would like to congratulate the following award recipients:
-
Best Student Talk: Manuel Flores III (Investigating differences in edge effects between planted forest and pastureland on secondary forests in Brazil)
-
Best Student Talk: Isabella Chiaravalloti (Mitigating nitrous oxide Emissions with copper and pH)
-
Best Postdoctoral Talk: Juliana Teixeira (Optimizing allometric equations for savanna trees: Improving accuracy in biomass estimates and carbon stock)
Stay tuned for more upcoming YCNCC events, including sponsored seminars and the 2025 Spring Symposium!
