SENATOR CHRIS MURPHY NAMES STARTUP WITH YCNCC ROOTS “INNOVATOR OF THE MONTH”
Earlier this week, Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy honored CREW Carbon by naming the New Haven based startup “Innovator of the Month.” CREW was co-founded by Yale Geochemistry PhD Joachim Katchinoff and Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture (YCNCC) Scientific Leadership Team member Noah Planavsky.
CREW’s technology utilizes engineered enhanced weathering (EW) for permanent and verifiable carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in wastewater treatment systems. The company has sold high-quality CDR credits to Frontier, and was recently named one of 24 semifinalists for the U.S. Department of Energy CDR Purchase Pilot Prize.
Senator Murphy said: “Tackling the climate crisis requires creativity. CREW’s promising approach offers a new way to safely repurpose naturally available minerals into practical tools that remove and store carbon dioxide from wastewater. Their eco-friendly weathering technology is moving us closer to achieving our climate goals by speeding up a process that would otherwise take millions of years, and I look forward to seeing their impact in our state continue to grow.”
